The Draw the Line
initiative was established by P.A.V.E.
to address the ever-growing epidemic of
cyber bullying. As the use of
technology continues to skyrocket,
children have access to a variety of
means to cause harm to others in the
form of emails, texting and posting
rumors and hurtful and damaging comments
about others on social networking sites,
such as Facebook, MySpace and Formspring.
An in-School program for
children in grades three through twelve
addresses issues of cyber bullying
utilizing a curriculum called “The Wild
Wild Web” (grades 3 through 6) which
defines what cyber bullying is;
establishes a 3-rule code of conduct for
the web; exposes the critical role of
the bystander in common bullying
scenarios; and offers simple tips for
documenting cyber bullying attacks.
For grades 7 through 12, “The Dark Side
of Technology” looks at cyber bullying and the pitfalls
of social networking and “sexting”. The curriculum
utilizes a power point presentation, video clips and
role playing activities. All students receive a
“Report it, don’t support
it! Stop Cyberbullying” bookmark that
includes 9 effective ways to deal with
cyber bullying.
